Are you one of those Filipinos who want to work abroad in search of greener pastures or are you a seasoned overseas worker who has found fulfillment in opportunities outside your homeland?

When you travel abroad, it’s not surprising to see many Filipino workers around. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the population of overseas Pinoy workers from April to September 2020 was estimated at 1.77 million.

“I have 5 children and am still supporting my parents. I don’t think the salary in the Philippines could meet my family’s needs. That’s why I applied for work in Bangladesh in 2009. I’ve been here, with the same employer, for over 14 years.” Arthur, 45

“I’m from a poor family in Bicol. Growing up, I saw my parents struggling to provide food on the table. That pushed me to apply for work abroad. I’m so lucky to have been working for a kind employer for more than 5 years now.” Mira, 28

A few reasons why most Filipinos prefer to work in a foreign land is because of the abundance of job opportunities, higher salary, and better financial stability. But before you fly, don’t forget to secure these top 3 essentials:

1. Valid passport with valid work permit or visa. Your passport should be 6 months valid or you can renew 10 months before the expiration date. Also, check if you have the correct type of visa.

2. Employment contract. Secure an original copy of your employment contract, certified and authenticated by Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) or Philippine Embassy.

3. Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC).
You’ll also need to get travel exit clearance in the form of an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). This certificate exempts you from paying travel tax and airport terminal fees as well as guarantees you that you are covered by government protection and benefits.

In processing your OEC, you are mandated to get a proof of Certificate of Insurance coverage, through OFW-accredited insurance companies, also known as OFW insurance. This provides financial support for medical repatriation should you fall ill during your employment abroad.

Based on the Republic Act No. 8042, otherwise known as the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1955, as amended, all migrant workers must be covered by compulsory insurance policy when they work abroad. This law protects the Overseas Filipinos and Migrant Workers and provides adequate and timely social, economic and legal services, protection to labor, and promotes full and equal employment opportunities.

Implementing this mandatory insurance for ALL OFWs, including “Balik-Manggagawa” and direct hires or name hires as a requirement in getting their Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), will protect all our Pinoy workers abroad against any possible risks.

Paramount Life & General Insurance Corporation (PLGIC) is the first insurance company that is accredited by the Philippine Overseas and Employment Administration (POEA) and licensed by IC to offer this type of insurance since 2010.

Our OFW Balik-Manggagawa insurance is a product designed specifically for returning OFW/Migrant workers that is considered to provide an extra layer of protection to our OFWs in cases where their employers/principal fail to perform their liabilities to the worker.

Application is open to all returning overseas Filipino workers, from ages 21 to 60 years old, with a valid employment contract or working permit/visa. Premium starts at 36 USD. Based on a 12-month contract duration.
