PAGASA declared the onset of the rainy season last June 4, 2021. Every year, there are around 20 typhoons that enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of last month, our country had 4 tropical cyclones.

Isang dahilan nito ang init-lamig o papalit-palit na temperatura which makes it favorable for microorganisms to reproduce and multiply.

The hot, humid and wet weather causes our body’s immune system to weaken. This is why The Department of Health or DOH has advised the public to prepare for the different illnesses associated with the monsoon season.

We need to be cautious and know how we can be safe and protected.

Some monsoon illnesses that we need to be aware of (and prepare for) are:

Colds and Flu are viral infections which happen during the rainy season.

Diarrhea is the increase in frequency of loose or liquid bowel movement. It is recommended to use safe, clean and purified water para makaiwas sa ganitong sakit.

Leptospirosis is a disease caused by bacteria. Infected animals such as rodents, dogs or other mammals spread the bacteria through their urine which can get into soil or water and be transmitted to humans. You can be infected by touching or drinking contaminated water and eating contaminated food. Iwasan din sumulong sa baha dahil pwedeng pumasok ang bacteria through your eyes, nose, mouth and broken skin.

Malaria is common during the rainy season. Karamihan sa malaria cases ay nangyayari sa forested, swampy, hilly and mountainous regions in our country.

Dengue is spread through mosquito bites. This can be painful and life-threatening. Ito ay ang Search and destroy, Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation, and Say YES to fogging.

Remember to keep safe this rainy season lalo na at hindi pa rin tapos ang pandemic. Have a healthy diet and don’t forget to take your vitamins and supplements para siguradong may dagdag-panlaban ang katawan sa anumang sakit.

If you or any of your family members get sick, consult a doctor immediately. Being hospitalized can prove to be very costly sometimes.
