Meet Mang Isko

March 10, 2017

Age: 63

Civil Status: Married

Occupation: Jeepney driver

No. of Children: 7

No. of Grandchildren: 18

Mang Isko lives with his wife and children together with their families at their compound in Pasay City. He’s a father of 7 and a loving lolo to 18 grandchildren (yep, that’s a lot!). He works as a jeepney driver with routes from Pasay Rotonda to Alabang, Muntinlupa, and vice versa.

He normally comes home around 6PM to 7PM, tired from driving for almost throughout the day.

Every night, his grandchildren wait for him patiently to hear his stories of how beautiful the city lights were, how busy his passengers were, and even how heavy the traffic was. The children would always be in awe at their Lolo’s superb and inspiring stories, making them want to give back to their Lolo Isko.

The kind and loving Lolo Isko gives them ₱5.00 each, “pang-dagdag baon,” he says, before he puts them to sleep. It may be a small amount, but for him, it could take his grandchildren a long way, to keep them motivated to study and reach their dreams. His precious apo’s are who keep him going.

Up to now, he continues to inspire his grandchildren to study and work hard so that one day, they will be one of the busy passengers at someone’s jeepney, going to their respective workplaces, striving to be successful in life.

Mang Isko is just an example of all ever loving grandparents and is a proof that nothing beats the kind of love that they have for their apo's! So this Grandparent’s Week, make yours feel extra special and appreciated by taking care of them. Like what his grandchildren are inspired to do, it’s time to pay back to your Lolo and Lola by simply taking care of them.

“How?”, you may ask, well, considering their age, you should first and foremost protect their health to further extend their life so you and the rest of your family get to spend more time with them. Opt for a healthcare plan that will give them cash assistance once hospitalized, or an insurance plan that provides life protection.

You might be thinking that you also want to have your very own Lolo Isko, but I’m pretty sure you do. It may not be your lolo but that golden and special personality can be your Lola, Mama, Papa, Ate, Kuya, Bunso, or even your friends! Treasure the ones who are always there for you, inspiring and pushing you to strive and reach for your dreams.
