Best Summer Road Trips for Php1,000 Pesos

Summer is already in full swing and many Filipinos are all excited in planning out their vacation.  There are a lot of ways to enjoy your summer, you don’t even have to book a flight and hop in a plane just to have a memorable summer vacation.  In fact, one of the best ways to travel and enjoy the summer is on the road, with your family and friends. Summer vacations don’t need to be expensive, so we have come up with some affordable and nearby destinations that you can choose from:


  1. Pangasinan - Its capital is Lingayen.  This province is known for Hundred Islands, boneless bangus, tupig, bagoong isda and many more.  It’s a 4-5 hour drive from Manila. Some of the places to visit in this province are:

  1. Bolinao waterfalls - If you are looking for a relatively cheap but relaxing waterfalls  view, this is the place for you. Swim and feel refreshed for Php50 entrance fee and Php20 parking fee.  There are available cottages where you can eat and take a nap during the day for Php200.

  1. Patar Beach - Enjoy the fine sand of this beach the whole day.  You may rent a cottage for only Php200. There are food stalls within the area that sell affordable and fresh seafood meals.  

  1. Urdaneta market - Don’t forget to drop by at Urdaneta market to buy tupig for Php5/piece, bagoong isda and vegetables.  

  1. Dagupan’s boneless bangus - Never miss the chance to eat boneless bangus while in Pangasinan. It’s really tasty! You may bring home some too, for only Php90 for a pack of 3.

  1. Manaoag Church - Your trip won’t be complete without dropping by here.  Either you offer a prayer or just take pictures with your family or friends.

  1. Zambales - Its capital is Iba. This province is known for Subic Bay Freeport Zone, beautiful beaches and delicious mangoes.  It will only take you 4 hours by car to get there. Here are the famous places to explore:


  1. Subic Bay Freeport Zone - Formerly a military base now converted to a Freeport Zone.  There are many sights to see and activities to do within the vicinity. If you’re looking for eye-popping deals, shop at Royal Subic Duty Free.  Everything you need is inside the freeport zone from restaurants, hotels, nature to beaches.  

    It is few minutes away from Olongapo City market where you can buy cheap and fresh fish like barilyete which is best when grilled. A must-try! If you are looking for an affordable group accommodations, there are hostels outside Subic Bay Freeport Zone that range from 800-1200/night.

  1. Liw-Liwa Beach - Located in San Felipe.  No entrance fee. Bring your own tent and food.  This is an awesome surfing destination near Manila.

  1. Crystal Beach - Located in San Narciso. If you are a nature lover who wants a quick escape from the city, then you are making the right choice! You will spend around Php400 for food and other expenses.

        D. San Narciso public market - Don’t forget to try the province’s  ripe mangoes.  They’re sweet.  You’ll get bigger discount if you buy by the crate.                             

                           Near the public market, try their hot pandesal.  For .50 centavos per piece, you can enjoy a butter-flavored hot pandesal!
